€11 million for greener and more connected schools
The Ville de Toulon is investing €11 million in 2026 to modernize, green, and digitally equip its 84 schools.

On September 1st, the return to school in Toulon took place under the sign of transformation. Josée Massi, mayor of the city, welcomed students from the Brusquet school, one of the establishments that benefited from major summer works.
The municipality took advantage of the holidays to launch a vast modernization program for its school facilities, reaffirming its ambition to offer a safer, more sustainable learning environment adapted to contemporary challenges.
Major projects carried out during the summer
In total, 45 major development and maintenance projects were carried out during the summer in Toulon's schools. These operations cover various areas, ranging from replacing boilers (Rivière Neuve school) to renovating fire safety systems (Ernest Renan), as well as reinforcing fences (Claude-Debussy).

For the year 2026, the Ville is dedicating a budget of nearly €11 million to improving its school buildings. This effort is part of a longer-term investment policy, with more than €32 million committed since 2023 for the renovation of educational heritage.
Responding to climate change
In the face of increasing episodes of extreme heat, the Ville has accelerated its program of greening and de-paving school playgrounds. After ten schools already transformed, the Brusquet and Jean-Aicard school groups benefited from these developments this summer.
The objective is to create cool islands thanks to the shade of trees and evapotranspiration, while offering children more diverse and natural play areas, including "outdoor classroom" zones.
In addition, a summer comfort plan is being deployed: all nursery school dormitories are now air-conditioned. In elementary schools, air-conditioned "cool rooms" are gradually being installed, with 16 establishments to be equipped by the end of the year. The installation of ceiling fans continues at a rate of 60 per year.
Reinforced pedagogical support
Pedagogical support constitutes another pillar of municipal policy. The allocation per pupil, intended for the purchase of school supplies and equipment, has been increased by 10% since 2024, representing an additional budget of €50,000. Schools in the Réseau d’éducation prioritaire (REP) benefit from an increase.
The Programme de réussite éducative (PRE) has supported nearly 365 children and their families since the beginning of the year, offering individualized support. This action is complemented by two Cités éducatives, in the east and the west, which aim to strengthen equal opportunities.
