80 school children immersed in the maritime economy
The "Rade Bleue" operation plunged 80 students from Toulon into the heart of maritime and port issues.
On June 25, the Ports Rade Toulon-La Seyne, in collaboration with the Marine nationale, organized the "Rade Bleue" awareness day. This initiative aimed to connect 80 students from the metropole, aged 9 to 11, to the economic and environmental realities of their territory.
The objective is to offer them a concrete vision of port activities and efforts to protect the marine ecosystem. For one morning, the school children left their classrooms for the Terminal Passagers Toulon Côte d’Azur.
The program was structured around practical workshops to demystify the functioning of a major port and present the diversity of its careers, from logistics to security.
This educational approach is supported by IFREMER for scientific expertise, Sittomat for waste management, and the association Chercheurs en herbe for coordination.
TRANSITION
The highlight of the day was the visit of a Corsica Ferries vessel. The students discovered a strategic installation: the electrical connection system for ships at dock.
This equipment allows ferries to turn off their engines and reduce their polluting emissions to zero during their port of call. It embodies the port's commitment to its environmental transition and shows how an economic hub integrates the imperatives of sustainable development.
The "Rade Bleue" event highlighted the synergy between local stakeholders. The partnership of a port operator, the Marine nationale, a private company, and educational organizations emphasized a shared desire to prepare younger generations.
Because it is not only about protecting an exceptional natural heritage, but also about inspiring vocations for the blue economy careers of tomorrow.
