9th Var Mayors' Exhibition: The Region reaffirms its support for local authorities
At the 9th Var Mayors' Exhibition, Region Sud reaffirmed its support for local authorities with a 4.5 billion euro package.

On October 9, on the occasion of the 9th Salon des Communes du Var, Region Sud reaffirmed its support for local authorities with a 4.5 billion euro package.
Every year, this essential event brings together elected officials and economic actors to discuss the major issues facing local authorities. The event was marked by the presence of numerous personalities, including Simon Babre, prefect of Var, Jean-Louis Masson, president of the Department, David Lisnard, president of the Association des Maires de France, and Didier Bremond, president of the Association des Maires du Var.
François de Canson, vice-president of the Region in charge of economic development, tourism, and major risk prevention, detailed the extent of the regional commitment in favor of Var.
A financial commitment of 4.5 billion
For the second term, an overall envelope of €4.5 billion was mobilized, combining €2.3 billion in regional credits and €2.2 billion in European Funds. This financial windfall aims to support local projects and address the department's structural challenges.
From Sainte-Baume to Estérel, from our coastline to our countryside, Var, France's top tourist destination, is an exceptional department. Since 2016, the Region has stood alongside all the territories of Var, supporting them to the tune of €4.5 billion. Mobility, public spaces, energy transition, greening, rehabilitation of schools and buildings, we will continue to act with local elected officials to move all territories of Var forward.
Targeted priorities
This massive investment is divided into several strategic axes. The ecological transition is top priority, with €620 million planned by 2038 as part of the Plan Or Bleu for water resources. Risk prevention, via the "La Guerre du Feu" scheme, has benefited from €42 million since 2018, supplemented by an additional €5 million for the 2022-2027 period to equip the fire and rescue services (SDIS).

Other key sectors are also supported: culture and heritage receive nearly €53 million, including the future Maures–Estérel–Tanneron Regional Natural Park. Agriculture is supported to the tune of nearly €3 million over 2023-2027 for the installation of new farmers. Finally, health (€3.8 million for 22 regional health centers) and security (nearly €3 million for 394 cameras) complete this plan.
More than 1,200 local projects supported
Since 2016, over 1,200 projects have been supported to the tune of €350 million through the "Nos Communes d'abord" and "Nos territoires d'abord" schemes. This aid funded a wide variety of achievements to improve residents' daily lives.
Examples include the renaturation of schoolyards in Trigance and La Farlède, the de-paving of a yard in Barjols, the development of a leisure area in Bras, or the energy renovation of buildings in Salernes and Draguignan.
Major projects such as the renovation of the Toulon Opera, the rehabilitation of Espace 3000 in Hyères, or the creation of cycle paths in Ramatuelle also benefited from these funds. As a managing authority, the Region secured nearly €130 million in European funding injected into projects in Var.
Note
On October 12, François de Canson was elected president of Region Sud.
