Bormes-les-Mimosas: Public Consultation, Key Word of Development Projects

The mayor recently invited residents of chemin des Catalanes to a working meeting on site, at the intersection of Traverse des Mimosanes, to address the issues of excessive speed and safety on this road.

The Municipality's stated goal is to involve those primary affected in defining the solutions to be implemented. "Your opinion interests us and must be at the heart of the works we are planning," said the mayor to the many residents who attended.

A direct approach on site

Rather than a formal indoor meeting, elected officials and technical services opted for a direct approach. Gathered around a detailed technical plan, participants analyzed the road configuration, shared their views, and debated the proposed developments.

Among the options considered are speed modulation devices, such as the installation of chicanes, designed to break up straight lines and force drivers to slow down.

This collaborative approach, based on listening and dialogue, aims to achieve a consensual and effective solution, ensuring a calmer and safer daily environment for all users, whether they are drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians.

Trial phase

Following this constructive consultation, it was decided not to freeze anything immediately. Before committing to permanent and costly development works, a test phase will be deployed in the short term.

Temporary devices, such as white beacons and movable modules, will be installed on chemin des Catalanes at strategic locations defined with the residents.

This pragmatic method will make it possible to measure the real impact of the changes on driver behavior and traffic flow. Residents will be able to adapt to these new arrangements, evaluate their relevance on a daily basis, and suggest any necessary adjustments.

Only after validation of this experimental phase will permanent works be launched, thus ensuring a perfect match between the project and the neighborhood's' needs.
