Université de Toulon, drone pioneer
With the creation of its Centre d’expertise multi-drones (CMD), Université de Toulon strengthens its scientific and technological leadership in a rapidly expanding sector. Supported by around thirty professor-researchers and backed by the excellence of its research laboratories, the CMD illustrates the institution's commitment to innovation.
This ambitious initiative, supported by the base industrielle et technologique de défense (BITD), relies on the excellence of its research teams and the complementarity of its laboratories. Université has for several years been putting its scientific expertise at the service of cutting-edge projects.
The work of its professor-researchers stands out for its high level of expertise and industrial relevance.
From modeling to legislation, including inter-drone cooperation and swarm piloting, academic contributions are recognized. These advancements are regularly highlighted during major events such as I-Naval, Euronaval or the salon du Bourget.
A reference structure for innovation
The CMD aims to become a reference structure in région Sud to meet a growing demand for innovation in a highly strategic sector. It will make it possible to federate academic, industrial, and territorial skills.
The goal is to train through research, for research and innovation. This approach is consistent with the territorial roots of the institution, which places the promotion of its work at the heart of its dynamic.
A strategic partnership for defense
Furthermore, on July 4, the Région Sud signed a partnership agreement with the ministère des Armées for defense in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. This agreement reinforces the strategic alliance between the State and the Region around defense, innovation, industry, and sovereignty.
It is in line with the continuity of the Plan régional « Sud Défense ». It aims to support the armed forces, accompany defense companies, and reinforce their resilience. The objective is also to experiment and innovate in terms of defense and dual-use economy.
Finally, this agreement supports major projects of common interest and strengthens regional influence. It accompanies the armed forces in the ecological transition, in connection with the objectives of the Plan climat régional.
