Art meets nature with Hélène Muller
Young artisan dyer and artist Hélène Muller exhibited her textile work 'Canopées' at the Hôtel de la Mer.
“It is a textile work in which art and ecology blend. It invites visitors to marvel at the richness and fragility of our ecosystem,” explains the artist. She adds: “As a source of inspiration, the Canopy is interpreted through the artistic quest for a shades of green.”
Through different dyed fabric panels, her 'textile stained glass windows', the dyer celebrates this harmonious complexity and highlights the urgent need to preserve our plant environment.”
FOLIAGE Each panel reveals a reconstructed fragment of this green haven. Like foliage, the fabrics move with the air currents and invite visitors to feel the present moment, to accompany the breathing of the trees.
Each shade tells a story, revealing the heritage of an ancestral practice dating back to immemorial times. “For the ancestral art of natural dyeing, using pigments extracted from plants and organic sources, offers infinite possibilities. It is through this medium that the artist composes a shimmering palette, in which plant names form a true botanical poem.
Through mixtures of weld and indigo, goldenrod and woad, buckthorn and knotweed, the coloring molecules blend and recreate themselves,” continues the young artist.
Chaque panneau révèle un fragment recomposé de ce refuge verdoyant. Comme un feuillage, les tissus bougent selon les mouvements d’air et invitent les visiteurs à ressentir l’instant présent, à accompagner la respiration des arbres. Chaque nuance raconte une histoire, révélant l’héritage d’une pratique ancestrale qui remonte à des temps immémoriaux. « Car l’art ancestral de la teinture naturelle, utilisant des pigments extraits de plantes et de sources organiques, offre des possibilités infinies. C’est par ce médium que l’artiste compose une palette chatoyante, dans laquelle les noms des plantes forment un vrai poème botanique. Par des mélanges de réséda et d’indigo, de solidage et de pastel, de nerprun et de renouée, les molécules colorantes se fondent et se recréent », reprend la jeune artiste. Au-delà de l’esthétique, l’œuvre cherche à éveiller les consciences sur les enjeux écologiques pressants auxquels notre planète est confrontée. À travers cette exposition, l’artiste espère non seulement émerveiller les spectateurs par la beauté des œuvres, mais également éveiller une appréciation renouvelée par des pratiques artistiques respectueuses de l’environnement. Par ailleurs, l'exposition « Odyssea », esquisses botaniques et poétiques au fusain, cartographie brodée, autour du voyage d’Ulysse, est présentée jusqu'au 22 septembre. •
Beyond aesthetics, the work seeks to raise awareness about the pressing ecological issues facing our planet. Through this exhibition, the artist hopes not only to marvel viewers with the beauty of the works, but also to awaken a renewed appreciation for environmentally friendly artistic practices.
