During the first half of 2024, the final major key operations were carried out on the A57. Since this summer, the construction site has been in a so-called completion phase. Barring major unforeseen events, the schedule will be met and, for example, the third lane opened during September will be fully operational by the end of the year.

NEW KEY MILESTONE "Indeed, it may seem visually complete and we are, admittedly, close to the end, but there are still many details needed to finalize. However, the nature of the work has truly changed. They are, undoubtedly, less perceptible to the general public because they are less imposing, less visible, but they are, nonetheless, just as necessary," explains Salvador Nunez, Operational Director of the A57 widening project.

He adds: "We must not lower our guard; we remain focused on our initial strategy, implemented from the start to ensure the safety of everyone, site workers, local residents, and road users."

In concrete terms, a new key milestone was reached in September with the early opening to traffic of the 3rd lane, operational on the first two sectors. "We proactively proposed solutions to make this possible in collaboration with the State services and the prefecture of Var, in order to improve the daily life of users as early as possible. But beware, despite everything, we remain in a roadworks configuration with a speed limit reduced to 70 km/h.

I call on everyone to be vigilant for the safety of all," Salvador Nunez warns once again.

STATE CONTROLS Thus, in the coming weeks, the bulk of the work will have been done on the motorway platform, allowing the 3rd lane to be opened early in new sectors. "The work dedicated to restoring the roads around the A57 will continue from the beginning of January 2025. This final phase will end in April.

In parallel, a major phase of successive controls is scheduled by the State services, notably in mid-December. It is these controls that will lead to a ministerial decision allowing the final commissioning," the operational director continues.

"We are inevitably and serenely approaching the end, that is a certainty. Our teams are not letting their guard down and will remain focused until the very end, I commit to this," concludes the head of the A57 works, who will tackle another project as soon as this site is finished: the northern and western bypass of the city of Montpellier.
