Hubert Larose: "Cyclists must respect the highway code"!
On November 8 at Yann-Piat hall, the UCPL general assembly met the expectations of the 125 members present.

The extraordinary general assembly approved the association's statutes to comply with the legislation. The reports were unanimously approved and demonstrate the club's good health. UCPL has a stable membership of 158 members and sustained weekly activity (road cycling, youth school, adult mountain biking, and hiking). Thus, the Maurin des Maures gathered 800 participants. "It's a success. A big thank you to everyone," welcomed President Hubert Larose.

THANKS TO YVES BOYER
He added: "On the financial side, the treasurer's report confirmed the club's good financial health, validated by the auditors. I thank the Municipality, the Department, and the local businesses who generously help us. Not forgetting La Gazette du Var and Var Matin, which dedicate wonderful articles to us. Thanks to Gilles and Christian. Concerning the steering committee, all members were unanimously elected or re-elected with perfect parity (7 women and 7 men). I thank the outgoing members, and particularly Yves Boyer for his 40 years of good and loyal service. I thank the members of the steering committee and all club members who have given their time to keep our association alive and allow us to hold an important place in the local community life. Friendship and conviviality are always present in our activities. The year 2024 is the year of all achievements and even of all honors"! Indeed, President Larose received the Town's medal on behalf of the club in January. The club also received press recognition with an article in Cyclo Magazine (distributed in 20,000 copies in France) and an article in the municipal magazine. Then, in a very moving moment, Hubert Larose honored Cathy, who is visually impaired, and her friend Jean Jacques Lefloch, head of the departmental Handi Sport commission, with the screening of the film summarizing their tandem journey from Lyon to Paris. The two friends participated alongside 80 tandems registered for the Olympic Games.

HIGHWAY CODE
Before concluding the general assembly, President Hubert Larose addressed the issue of cyclist safety on the road: "This subject is on the agenda and the passions it arouses are not going to die down. I am not going to give you a driving lesson, but point out an accident-prone spot in La Londe, at the Garenne roundabout. At this location, there is a pedestrian crossing. Visibility is not very good and, for cyclists as well as motorists, we must stop. As a reminder, cyclists must respect the 'give way' sign and get off their bikes when crossing the pedestrian crossing, as required by the highway code. It is true that these two code provisions are never respected by cyclists. In the event of an accident, cyclists will be held liable. Furthermore, there have been 3 accidents in recent weeks at this location involving three cyclists from the club. Please respect the highway code when you ride your bike"!

In the presence of: François de CANSON, mayor of La Londeles-Maures, Jean-Marie MASSIMO, deputy for sports affairs, Valérie AUBRY, Jean Jacques DEPIROU, Pascale ISNARD, Stéphanie LOMBARDO, Nicolas MIGNOT, Marine POMARES, Jacky LEPRETRE, member of the Randonneurs Londais, the cycling clubs of Hyères and La Farlède.
