Numerous operational cooperation actions for the FREMM DA Lorraine
End of mission in Méditerranée orientale for the multi-mission frigate with enhanced air defence capabilities (FREMM DA) Lorraine.
The FREMM DA Lorraine returned to its home port of Toulon on December 13, after being deployed for two and a half months in Méditerranée orientale. Through its presence in this region of strategic interest, developments took place in the Proche and Moyen-Orient, including the recent fall of the Syrian regime. The crew of the FREMM DA Lorraine left Toulon on October 1 and operated in Méditerranée orientale in the context of the conflict in the Proche-Orient.
This mission provided a complementary view of the area, thus offering France an autonomous decision-making capability. During this deployment, the Lorraine also conducted numerous operational cooperation actions with allied navies from OTAN and the maritime component of the Force des Nations unies au Liban (FINUL).
In particular, it conducted joint manoeuvres with the American frigate and replenishment ship USS Wasp and Patuxent, the English frigate Duncan, the Spanish replenishment oiler Cantabria and the German frigates Ludwigshafen am Rhein and Hamburg. This mission was also an opportunity for the Lorraine to maintain military cooperation with Chypre, by conducting joint exercises with the Chypre navy and air force.
