Painter Robert Semelle immortalizes the Cave des Vignerons

During this ceremony, the artist introduced his work to the winegrowers and cooperative members, as well as to Éric Dusfourd, director of the Cave, and François de Canson, mayor of the municipality, but also a winegrower and president of the Cave. As the town's first magistrate recalled: "Robert Semelle is an artist recognized in the region for his works, which he regularly exhibits at the galerie Horace Vernet. In the 90s, he painted wine estates in the municipality and often went into the vineyards to immortalize our wine-growing landscapes, paintings that have marked the history of the town. Robert Semelle was also a very popular postman when he did his rounds in town." Faced with so many compliments, the painter's face turned a little red and, in response, he revealed information known only to a few insiders: "In 2026, I will hold a major exhibition at the galerie Horace Vernet where I will reveal the new paintings I have created. Among these paintings, there will, of course, be the one of the Cave des vignerons. We will therefore have to be patient and wait a few more months before discovering my new productions." The artist also revealed the name of the person who had convinced him to paint the winegrowers' building: "It is Josette, my wife, who one day said to me: 'And why don't you do the Cave?' I immediately took up her idea and a few days later, I set to work." In this regard, Robert Semelle confided that the subject of his paintings was often inspired by members of his family, his wife or his son, but also by friends or people he met during his walks: "I take their ideas and produce them on canvas. Already when I was working in Paris, I did the same. And that is how I painted the Montmartre district, the Sacré Chœur or the château de Chambord. In La Londe, I had painted the château d'Horace Vernet in the 90s."
