Veolia brings ecological transformation to life in Var and Alpes Maritimes

AMPHITRIA STATION

In Var, the transformation works of the Amphitria wastewater treatment plant at Cap Sicié occupy much of Veolia's attention. The wastewater treatment plant treats wastewater from the municipalities of Toulon, Évenos, Ollioules, Le Revest-les-Eaux, Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer, La Seyne-sur-Mer, and Six-Fours-les-Plages. It is one of the largest stations in the Méditerranée and has the unique feature of having in situ sludge treatment by incineration. The Métropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée and its delegate Veolia are carrying out a major transformation project of the wastewater treatment plant to keep it at the cutting edge of innovation. It will be a plant that controls its environmental impact and produces energy. At the same time, Veolia is implementing solutions for the preservation and savings of the major player in decarbonizing territorial energy production, supporting local authorities and resources. The improvement of the performance Veolia of the networks is one of the key issues of the preservation of water resources. In addition to water quality, the priority for a drinking water service is also to define an ambitious strategy for improving yield and to invest in a range of leak location technologies.

WASTEWATER REUSE

The reuse of treated wastewater (REUT) can meet certain water uses as a substitute for drinking water. There is strong potential for the development of these projects in Alpes-Maritimes and Var, as many wastewater treatment plants are located near the coastline and therefore discharge treated wastewater into the sea. This is why Veolia is studying REUT projects in all the coastal wastewater treatment plants it operates. Thus, several REUT units have already been implemented by Veolia in Var and Alpes-Maritimes, in Sainte-Maxime since 2006 for watering the golf course and green spaces, at the Agay wastewater treatment plant in Saint-Raphaël, in Châteauneuf-de-Grasse, in Menton, and in Antibes since 2023 for street cleaning and green space irrigation. This last unit was reinforced and modified to meet the demand of the Communauté d'Agglomération Sophia Antipolis and thus achieve European Class A treatment quality to allow for a diversification of uses.
