8 GENDARMES DECORATED Six of these everyday heroes were notably honored during the traditional national ceremony celebrated in the cour d'honneur des Invalides. Among them, Adjudant Christophe, from the brigade territoriale autonome de Dompierre-sur-Besbre (Allier), was decorated by the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, for showing remarkable commitment and composure during a critical situation involving a young woman armed with a knife. Elsewhere in France, many gendarmes were honored on the occasion of this day dedicated to the everyday heroes of the gendarmerie, to those who left us in the line of duty, and finally, to those who commit themselves daily for the benefit of the population.

A beautiful military ceremony filled with great emotion. Since 1993, the national tribute to the deceased of the gendarmerie has taken place every February 16, a date which corresponds to February 16, 1791, the day when the maréchaussée of the old regime officially became the gendarmerie nationale by promulgation of the law.

In Le Beausset, during the tribute, the esplanade Charles de Gaulle was transformed into a place d'Armes. 8 Varois gendarmes were decorated (1) by Colonel Gregory Goumain, commander of the groupement de gendarmerie du Var, and by Joséphine Gugliano-Boutonnet, sous-préfète and chief of staff, in the presence of numerous civil and military personalities and representatives of patriotic and memorial associations. In the presence of: Presided over by the sous-préfète, the ceremony began with the tribute to the flags, followed by a historical presentation of the gendarmerie, and ended with the laying of wreaths by authorities and representatives of the associations and the Marseillaise.

It was an opportunity to hail the commitment, courage, and dedication of the men and women of the gendarmerie who ensure the security of goods and people on a daily basis, their struggles, and their determination. Our Republic needs its gendarmerie, it needs its soldiers of the law. So, we support you and we stand by you.

SACRIFICE AND DEDICATION A ceremony attended by Stéphane Rambaud, député for the 3rd constituency of Var: "Alongside Colonel Goumain, commander of the gendarmerie du Var, we paid tribute to the heroes of the gendarmerie nationale who fell for France. I laid a wreath with my parliamentary colleagues Frank Giletti and Julie Lechanteux, also députés of Var, a solemn tribute to their courage, their sacrifice, and their dedication. This year, 12 gendarmes lost their lives in the line of duty."

Each year, we honor their commitment, we keep their values alive. Finally, among the twenty or so flag-bearers, the presence of youth was noticeable with Kali and Lily, from the SNU, wearing the uniform of the Cadets de la gendarmerie. The former carried the flag of the ACSPMG (Histoire et patrimoine de la Maréchaussée à la Gendarmerie) and the latter presented the departmental flag of the Souvenir Français. A presence that illustrated their commitment to the duty of memory.
