An École des Apprentis de la Marine is set to open
This announcement was made by the Chief of Staff of the Marine nationale, Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, during his address to Toulon sailors on January 31.
At the start of the next school year, the École des Apprentis de la Marine will offer young high school students training in naval maintenance professions through the preparation of a vocational baccalaureate. But this will actually be much more than just preparing for a baccalaureate under exceptional conditions. PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL TRAINING Through this unique training carried out under military status, the apprentices will indeed become qualified sailors ready to embark, as soon as they obtain their baccalaureate, aboard last-generation vessels, for a career within the Marine nationale.
In addition to receiving high-quality theoretical teaching, they will be offered intensive and immersive practical training that will familiarize them with the most advanced technologies. Facility operation simulators, cutting-edge equipment, and field exercises will enable future sailors to develop the technical and operational skills essential to practicing their profession.
The École des Apprentis de la Marine also aims to forge complete sailors, united by the crew spirit and endowed with a great capacity for adaptation. Maritime, military, and sports activities will be carried out, fostering the development of essential values such as courage, discipline, teamwork, a sense of effort, and a sense of duty.
Located in the heart of the largest training center of the Marine nationale, the Pôle Écoles Méditerranée, the École des Apprentis de la Marine will offer a unique learning environment relying on the quality of military supervision, on cutting-edge educational equipment implemented within the framework of training already provided on site, on state-of-the-art sports facilities, and on a site as vast as it is splendid. And, in partnership with the Éducation nationale, it will offer two vocational baccalaureate specialties. First, a BAC PRO MELEC (Métiers de l'Électricité et de ses Environnements Connectés) starting in the 2025 school year and a BAC PRO CIEL (Cybersécurité, Informatique et réseau, Électronique) starting in September 2026.
These programs, accessible after a seconde générale or professionnelle, will combine general and vocational courses taught by teachers, and practical internships on Marine nationale equipment and units supervised by experienced sailors. The pathway will be completed by sailor training in its military and maritime dimensions.

They are in charge of the military and vocational training, initial and continuous, of crew, officier-marinier and officer personnel of the Marine nationale, in technical and operational fields.
Training more than 8,000 military personnel per year, the PEM is the largest of the Marine's training centers. It accounts for 50% of recruitments and initial training, and over 60% of advanced credential and certificate training within the Marine.
It employs nearly 800 people, including 128 civilians from the Défense and the Éducation nationale. The PEM also conducts post-baccalaureate training in partnership with the Éducation nationale, including a specialization certificate and 7 BTS in the fields of energy, naval mechatronics, and digital technology.
