A seaside resort highly popular with authors
In 2024, on the initiative of cultural director Raphaël Dupouy, the Ville created a festival on the theme of 'Rivages littéraires'.

With an initial success, Raphaël Dupouy's idea was to go ahead with a second edition, organized at the Espace culturel on March 8 and 9, and inaugurated by Gil Bernardi, the mayor, Charlotte Bouvard, first deputy, and Nathalie Christien, councillor for festivities. From now on, this reading event is part of the municipality's calendar of events. Thus, on the first day, the focus was on women's rights, allowing, through the pages, a blossoming of exchanges among a predominantly female audience. This literary event also took place in a very friendly atmosphere. Moreover, the public was not mistaken, as they were won over by the readings and book-signing sessions of the seven female and male authors present. The success of this event demonstrates the seaside resort's appeal to great artists and people of letters. Indeed, many writers have left their mark on the village (Jean Cocteau, Raymond Radiguet, Joseph Kessel, André Gide, Thomas Manne, to name but a few). Even today, the new generation of literary talents leaves its artistic mark on the town of nine beaches. A success to be credited, of course, to Raphaël Dupouy, but also to the authors and to Gérard Pénalver, a lover of literature and owner of the bookstore 'La Vallée de la lune', and also to René Frégni (winner of the 2017 Gallimard readers' prize) who sponsored the 2025 edition of 'Rivages littéraires'. An appointment has already been made for a third edition in 2026.
