The mayor was accompanied by Jean-Claude Vega, deputy mayor delegated to public works, Pascal Campens, deputy mayor delegated to social affairs, and Serge Venet, municipal councillor delegated to patriotic associations. The meeting was also attended by Alain Illich, Honorary Delegate General of the Souvenir Français of Var, Valérie Rialland, departmental councillor, as well as the flag-bearers, thus testifying to the importance of this moment of remembrance.
The meeting was opened by Claude Bonnal, honorary president of the Committee, who set the tone for this gathering placed under the sign of remembrance and respect. In tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for France, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the combatants and resistance fighters.
On the agenda of this meeting, several essential points were addressed, including the moral report, the financial report, and the activities carried out during the past year. The committee discussed projects for 2025, in particular school trips that will allow younger generations to discover history and understand the importance of the duty of remembrance.
REMEMBRANCE AND RECOGNITION The exhibition “Les Justes”, in particular, falls within this framework, highlighting the courageous actions of those who risked their lives to save others during the Second World War. Monique Boursin, president of the Committee, recalled the spirit and fundamental mission of the Souvenir Français, summarized by this poignant motto: “To them immortality, to us remembrance”.
An commitment that aims to honor the memory of the men and women who served France, and to pass this memory on to future generations. The meeting was also marked by recognition, with awards presented to several members of the Committee.
Daniel Atias received the bronze medal of the Souvenir Français, in tribute to his commitment. And, Paul Papi and Jean-Louis Boursin received certificates of honor for their dedication and involvement in the committee's activities.
The ceremony concluded with a friendly reception, allowing participants to chat and strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity that unite the members of the Souvenir Français.
