The Association syndicale des propriétaires enters into resistance

For several years, residents have been denouncing a series of appropriation maneuvers, threatening both their rights and the identity of this iconic place. At the heart of the conflict lies the attempt to appropriate for free various private assets belonging to the ASP. Roads, parking lots, wharves, and housing, maintained by the association, are now claimed by the municipality. These assets, essential for managing the estate, represent a crucial source of income to finance the maintenance of the lake city. For example, the parking lots, used by both visitors and residents, generate indispensable revenue.

INDEMNITY AND CONCESSION

In another aspect of the conflict, there is the issue of the €1.5 million indemnity, a sum concerning the buyout of the port concession. This indemnity, calculated on the basis of investments made by the association, has been pending since 2022, which exacerbates tensions. Other points of friction: the free use of port facilities and an annual bill of €400,000 that co-owners continue to pay despite the diverted use of this equipment. In practice, the owners of Port Grimaud possess a historical mooring right, written into their property deeds since 1966. However, this right is not recognized, and there are attempts to impose new contracts of usage guarantees. These contracts, limited in time and generating additional costs, spark strong opposition from residents. For many, this strategy is akin to a disguised expropriation. Faced with this situation, residents are considering an unprecedented step with the creation of a new independent municipality. This project aims to protect the autonomy of Port Grimaud and preserve its unique heritage. At the same time, legal actions have been launched to challenge decisions deemed abusive.

URBANIZATION PROJECTS

Beyond the disputes, a deeper concern weighs on minds. It is, nothing more, nothing less, about preserving the identity of Port Grimaud against urbanization projects deemed disproportionate. Thus, the planned expansion of the port, involving work estimated to cost between €30 and €40 million, is rejected by the local community. For residents, these transformations threaten the delicate balance between tradition and modernity that makes Port Grimaud such a special place. In a context where the balance between public interests and private rights is questioned, this situation resonates far beyond the borders of Port Grimaud. Residents hope that their struggle will attract the attention of the competent authorities in order to guarantee a fair and equitable future for their city, a symbol of the beauty and complexity of Mediterranean heritage. •
