5 days at sea to keep memory and solidarity alive
On May 5, two crews, made up of six officers from the École de guerre and six military orphans aged 18 to 24, set sail from Toulon to...

An extraordinary adventure to retrace part of the epic journey of the submarine Casabianca, hero of the Second World War and the Libération de la Corse. The departure of the sailboats was preceded by a farewell gathering, bringing together defense support associations, partners and sponsors of the Opération, families as well as civil and military authorities from the Toulon region.
CLANDESTINE OPERATION

IN MEMORY OF THE SUBMARINE

CASABIANCA:
The name of the operation refers to the famous submarine Casabianca, which, on November 27, 1942 in Toulon, refused to scuttle itself in the face of the arrival of German troops. Indeed, under the orders of Lieutenant Commander Jean L'Herminier, the vessel managed to escape the port, defying mines and bombardments, to reach Alger and the Forces Françaises Libres. A few weeks later (from December 13 to 15, 1942), the Casabianca carried out the first of its 7 clandestine missions in the anse de Topiti, near Cargèse. It landed a group of Corsican resistance fighters at night, along with radio equipment and weapons intended to support the insurrection against the occupier. This daring landing marked the beginning of direct support from France libre to the Résistance in Corse, the first territory of metropolitan France to be liberated in 1943.
