The Yacht-Club International dredged the port of La Favière

With the summer season approaching, the beach area must be prepared on the coastline, in particular with the restoration of the beaches through the dredging of the port carried out by the Yacht Club, manager of the port facilities.

SIGNIFICANT REMOVAL

A dredging operation that was made necessary after the accumulation of sand carried by currents and easterly gales. An operation that was carried out in strict accordance with the regulations of the Direction Départementale des Territoires et de la Mer (DDTM). Thus, Dominique Ledan, director of the port, confirmed an investment borne by the Yacht Club amounting to €400,000 excl. tax: "This results this year in a fairly significant removal, estimated at 20,000 m3 of sand. At the same time, the operation also involves analyses that are regularly carried out. We must carry out sampling in the area to evaluate the quality and grain size of the sand with the aim of replenishing the beaches." He added: "The blackish color of the material during extraction sometimes raises questions from passers-by. But they should rest assured, it is a natural reaction linked to the lack of oxygen in the depths. After a few hours in the sun, the natural color returns."

PRESERVATION OF THE ECOSYSTEM

For his part, the mayor continued: "Faced with the increase in visitor numbers in one of the most beautiful bays, protecting its natural riches is a necessity. To understand the issues, numerous studies have been conducted as well as an in-depth report on mooring practices in the bays of Gaou, Brégançon, Cabasson, and Léoube. These sites are of particular interest as they shelter posidonia and cymodocea meadows, essential but fragile marine ecosystems that can be damaged by heavy recreational boating." Moreover, analyses of the dredged sand confirm the good quality of the extracted sand, which will be reused on the municipality's beaches but also in Toulon, Carqueiranne, La Londe-les- Maures, and Sainte-Maxime."
