Free swimming lessons with "Les petits dauphins"

For three years, the Town has been committed to offering free swimming lessons to young Lavandourains, from an early age, as well as to pupils from local schools. Aware that knowing how to swim is not a given, even for the residents of a coastal community, the Municipality has set up an initiative called “Les petits dauphins”. Each season, a temporary pool is set up at the tennis club, near the market square, with supervision provided by experienced and motivated lifeguards.

INTERMUNICIPAL COLLABORATION This initiative also extends to school children in certain sections of Bormes-les-Mimosas. Since May, a collaboration between the two municipalities has enabled students to benefit from this opportunity. Pupils can thus obtain the Attestation Scolaire de Savoir-Nager (ASSN), an essential system for preventing the risks of drowning.

This collaboration was officialised in the presence of Roland Berger, sports representative of Le Lavandou, Michel Gonzalez, sports representative of Bormes, and Marc Luchinni, nursery school director. Furthermore, the Frédéric Mistral junior high school, under the direction of Hélène Pouliguen, is also participating in this initiative. Sixth-grade students must take the compulsory “Savoir Nager” test.

Hélène Pouliguen specifies: “Junior high school students have the chance to practice sailing during PE sessions in 5th and 4th years. This implies real choices in the organisation of teaching across all school disciplines because we believe in the unique educational value of these experiences and learning processes. This activity also requires the verification of aquatic skills via the ASSN.”

Finally, paid lessons for advanced training are also available. Indeed, in addition to the free lessons, the pool is open to all children from the age of 3 for paid individual and semi-collective lessons. These lessons aim to perfect swimming skills or improve water confidence.

The pool is under video control and constant supervision.
