Orange reinforces Marseille's position as a global interconnection hub

Orange has thus provided open access to all of the city's datacenters, thanks to its urban fiber optic ring.

This landing will be operated by Orange Marine's cable ship Sophie Germain, anchored in La Seyne-sur-Mer. FROM MARSEILLE TO BIZERTE Co-funded by the European Union, the Via Tunisia segment connects Marseille to Bizerte.

At 8,760 km long, Medusa is the longest submarine cable linking the main Mediterranean countries and will provide access to a telecommunications infrastructure essential for the development of the digital ecosystem of North African populations, as well as six European member states (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus).

With the expected positive effects on the economies of these countries, this investment contributes to inclusive economic growth. With the arrival of this new submarine cable, Orange reaffirms its commitment to international connectivity and Mediterranean digital dynamism, through the continued development of its infrastructure in Marseille.

Thanks to its redundant fiber optic infrastructure, Orange offers its customers simple, secure, and direct access to all of the datacenters in Marseille, which are now interconnected.

Orange thus increases access resilience and enables direct links to major European hubs such as Paris, London, or Frankfurt, as well as the rest of the world (Asia, Africa, Americas). This turnkey solution, whose technical, regulatory, security, and environmental aspects are managed by Orange, reinforces Marseille's position as a global interconnection hub.

It is an additional link for Mediterranean connectivity.

This new cable is part of the ongoing development of submarine networks linking the two shores of the Mediterranean.

As part of this project, the cable will connect Marseille to Bizerte in Tunisia (the Via Tunisia project announced by Orange in April 2023).

At 1,050 km long, this segment will meet the growing bandwidth requirements in the region.
