The guardian angels of the Méditerranée honored

Thus, the commander of the maritime district of the Méditerranée, Viceamiral d'escadre Christophe Lucas, presented the air traffic controllers assigned to the Centre de coordination et contrôle Marine de la Méditerranée (CCMAR MED) with the military territory protection medal with the trident clasp, honoring personnel participating in protection missions on French national territory. The CCMAR MED, formerly dedicated to defending maritime access to the bay and port of Toulon, reminds us through its daily work that airspace and maritime surveillance is nothing new. Indeed, established within these premises since 1987, the CCMAR MED embodies this tradition of vigilance and expertise, ensuring the aviation safety of our forces and other users. Rigor, method, and efficiency are the essential qualities of an air traffic controller. Their job: to guide different aircraft and coordinate with civil air traffic in order to guarantee flight safety at all times. In addition to being the guardian angels of the Méditerranée exercise zone, the air traffic controllers of the CCMAR MED act as operational planners for the benefit of the armed forces. Deployed at the heart of all air exercises, they actively participate in the innovation of future defense equipment, in joint and allied exercises, as well as in high-intensity training.
