At Villa Théo, an exhibition takes on the colors of the Var

An invitation to explore the influence of this wonderful territory on artistic creation through the discovery of Var landscapes. “With its unique colors, the Var has managed to cross its borders and shine its vibrant Midi light into the museums and galleries of the world,” stressed Nathalie Christien. During the opening reception, Raphaël Dupouy was congratulated for his work as the town's cultural attaché. The presentation of around thirty works recalled this eternal land of welcome and inspiration for numerous artists, also attracting big names who came to create magnificent paintings here since the end of the 19th century. In a colorful journey featuring bold subjects, painters such as Théo Van Rysselberghe, Henri Edmond Cross, their friends Maximilien Luce, Louis Valtat, Charles Camoin, Henri Manguin and his magnificent “Sunset in Saint-Tropez,” chosen to illustrate the poster and invitation for this exhibition, are prominently featured. Alongside them, in a dialogue of tradition and modernity, are works by Toulon classics signed by Vincent Courdouan or François Nardi, but also by contemporary artists such as Patrice Giorda, Bertrand Miollis, Pascale Hemery, Marie Astoin, Caroline Vicquenault or, indeed, Bernard Buffet. Without forgetting Solange Triger, Serge Plagnol, Olivier Lavoral, and Jean Maltèse. All four were present at the opening reception. Thus, it is confirmed that between artistic heritage and contemporary creation, the Villa Théo art center highlights this creative momentum, constantly reinventing itself through the generations.
