Bernard Mouttet: "This victory proves that hard work pays off"

How did you feel when you saw the voters renew their confidence in you?

I want to thank them all. They mobilized, they turned out, and they saw that, for the past six years, Cuers has been moving forward.

What feeling dominates tonight?

I think of my parents who passed away ten years ago and who never saw me as mayor of Cuers. I think of my wife, my daughter, my son-in-law. You no longer belong to yourself, you become a public figure.

What do you think convinced the voters?

Presence on the ground. I am a hands-on man, a man of detail, but I like to go out and meet people. Proximity is essential.

What message do you take away from this election?

The work was well done. We cannot achieve 100%, but we respected our commitments.

A highlight of the campaign?

People who usually vote differently told me: "Mr. Mayor, we will vote for you." That touched me.

Your first decision of the new term?

Restore two-way traffic between place Convention and place Mitterrand, except at 4:30 p.m. for schools.

Did your track record tip the scales?

We respected 92% of our commitments, we did not run up debt for the municipality, we invested €33 million and carried out 195 initiatives.

How do you plan to work with the opposition?

If the opposition is constructive, no problem. But when people say just anything, I do not accept it.

Your project for the next six years?

A realistic and achievable program.

A final word?

I thank my voters, the candidates, my family and all our supporters. For someone who was not a politician and who does it for his town, it moves me.
