This presentation, organised during a well-attended public meeting, led to numerous exchanges regarding this major environmental initiative. The objective is to restore natural functions to the aquatic environment. Studies carried out in 2020 by the Syndicat de l'Eygoutier provided an accurate diagnosis of the hydraulic and morphological characteristics of the site, serving as a basis for the project's development.
The planned developments aim to strengthen ecological richness by encouraging varied flows and the return of aquatic and fish fauna. To achieve this, a diversified vegetation will be introduced: reeds, ash trees, spindle trees, willows, and elderberries. In total, more than 3,200 trees and shrubs will be planted, along with 700 metres of hedges, 2 hectares of meadows, and 30,000 aquatic plants.
LIVING ENVIRONMENT The works will extend along the watercourse. In the Plan sector, nearly 1,800 metres of the Eygoutier watercourse will undergo renaturalisation. Over an area of approximately 10 hectares, the interventions will notably include reshaping the banks, creating meanders, planting riparian forest, as well as developing interconnected ponds.
A soft mobility route will also be created to connect the coastal cycle path, at the pont de la Clue, to the SNCF station.
In the more urbanised area of the Planquette, the project plans to rehabilitate 500 metres of the watercourse. The banks will be restored there, adapted planting will be carried out, and works will be conducted in strict compliance with the ecological calendar and current regulations, particularly those concerning the protection of species.
This meeting allowed residents to ask questions and better understand the various implementation stages of this aquatic environment restoration project. It also highlighted the interest of the Gardéens for this initiative and their commitment to improving their living environment.
• PLEASE NOTE... Funding for the project is provided 60% by the Agence de l'eau Rhône Méditerranée Corse, 20% by the Région Sud, and 20% by the Syndicat de l'Eygoutier. The construction site, estimated at €3.6 million excluding tax, is expected to last 18 months.
