Carlo Acutis, a canonized cyber-apostle
The first saint to have lived in the 21st century, canonized in September 2025, Carlo Acutis is particularly popular among young people.
Francine MARIE (text and photo). Presented as an evangelist of the digital continent, he is an inspiring figure for Internet users and Catholic influencers. Pope François, to whom we owe the recognition of two miracles, was due to canonize him during the adolescents' jubilee in April 2025.
Upon his appointment, Léon XIV decided to canonize Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager born in London, living in Milan, who had a short life, passing away in 2006 from leukemia at the age of 15.
WORSHIP IN ITALY Having become the first saint of his generation, he is little known in France, especially if one is far from Church affairs, but he is the subject of worship in Italy and among young Christians worldwide.
Father Pierre Pommeret has therefore highlighted this teenager who loved football, animals, and the world of IT. From his short existence, he leaves behind the creation of film montages and websites, notably for his parish and high school. He gives the image of a young person putting himself at the service of children, the elderly, and the poorest, for whom this connected world is less accessible.
His passion also for Marian apparitions led to him being recognized as a cyber-apostle of Eucharistic miracles.
Also, the parish hall located at Santa Cruz (1, place Sainte-Catherine de Sienne), was named after Carlo Acutis following the procession of the Immaculate Conception.
It was at the end of a religious service commemorating the vow of Prince Honoré II, thanking the Virgin Mary for the end of the plague, that a liturgical ceremony was organized on December 7, 2025. In the presence of Bishop François Touvet of the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, Father Pierre Pommeret gathered people together on this date with a procession leaving from the Saint-Louis church to occupy the Santa Cruz hall.
After the blessing by Monseigneur Touvet of this place of fraternal life where the teaching of catechism is also practiced, parishioners were invited to a meeting to share as a community of believers in a place now bearing the name of Carlo Acutis.
