Seven years after the devastating floods that ravaged the former Golf-Hôtel, a brand-new school building is rising from the ground.

During his visit, François de Canson, speaking on behalf of the Région, did not hide his satisfaction with this major project, a symbol of a kept commitment.

It is a real pleasure when we see the quality of what has been achieved […]. We see happy eyes, whether they are teachers or students. I can tell you that we are proud of what has been done, and I think everyone is unanimous, this high school is a real architectural asset

A colossal investment by the Région

The culmination of this project represents a colossal investment of 65 million euros, entirely funded by the regional authority.

It is 14,000 m², it is 65 million committed. Today, it is the culmination of a long journey, and I think everyone is very happy to start the school year here in this Golf-Hôtel high school

He specified that this funding is an exclusive competence of the Région, without external help: "High schools are a competence of the Région, so it is the Région that finances them. […] We have no aid for high schools."

State-of-the-art equipment

Beyond the architecture, the emphasis was placed on the quality of the facilities to guarantee an optimal working and learning environment. Classrooms, computer equipment, kitchens: everything has been designed to be at the cutting edge of technology.

Everything that is done is the best of what can be done in high schools today. […] I believe that today, here, we can teach in optimal conditions

A result which, according to him, owes much to the consultation phase carried out beforehand with the teaching teams.

In the region, our great strength is listening. The teachers told you, we listened, we took the time to consult, which means that today everyone enters classrooms that suit them and that are already adapted to the teachers' needs. It makes the task easier

A solution for seasonal workers

This new establishment is part of a broader investment policy.

In 10 years, with President Muselier, we have created five high schools: four in Bouches-du-Rhône, one in Var. And in 2030, there will also be a new high school in Le Luc, we are committed to it, and it is already well underway

The former Golf-Hôtel site is not abandoned, however. Discussions are underway with the town hall of Hyères for its conversion, with an economic and social focus: addressing the housing crisis for seasonal workers, which is crucial for the tourism sector that represents €22 billion, or 13% of the regional GDP.

This housing, managed by specialized associations, could occasionally serve local businesses. The Région intends to retain ownership of the site, thus redirecting it to address a major challenge for the territory.
