Admiral Christophe Cluzel at the helm of the Staff

The Marine nationale has changed command. Admiral Christophe Cluzel took office as Chief of Staff of the Marine (CEMM) during a solemn ceremony held on July 15 in the roadstead of Toulon.

He succeeds Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, who had held this strategic post since August 31, 2023.

Admiral Nicolas Vaujour left his post after nearly three years at the head of the Marine, a period marked by complex geopolitical issues and continuous modernization of equipment. His successor, Admiral Christophe Cluzel, now takes the reins of an institution undergoing full transformation.

A post with vast responsibilities

The function of Chief of Staff of the Marine is essential within the architecture of national defense. The CEMM is the principal advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Armies (CEMA) for matters relating to the maritime component.

His responsibilities are vast and cover the entire spectrum of the Marine's activities.

He is the guarantor of the operational readiness of the forces, ensuring that ships, submarines, aircraft, and commandos are ready to be deployed in all theaters of operations.

On the human level, the CEMM is responsible for recruitment, training, discipline, as well as the morale and welfare of all sailors.

Finally, he plays a leading diplomatic role by maintaining bilateral relations with foreign navies, a crucial aspect for international cooperation and maritime security.
