UCPL has started its new season with priority given to its MTB school and a varied events calendar. After an active summer, during which only the intense heat forced cyclists and mountain bikers to move up their morning departures, Union Cycliste et Pédestre Londaise (UCPL) launched its new season at the associations forum on September 5th.

Priority on youth training

“The turnout and the many contacts made on this occasion augur a promising year for the club, which did not wait for the start of the school year to multiply its initiatives. This year, the club is putting an emphasis on youth training. The MTB school, which resumed its activities on September 12th, is undergoing several developments aimed at improving supervision and opening up new perspectives. Sessions now take place on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.,” explains Hubert Larose, the president of UCPL.

“Thanks to our membership in the Fédération Française de Cyclisme, UCPL allows its most experienced youngsters to participate in official championships. In addition, the club has set up a support scheme for the maintenance of young competitors' equipment. The ambition of our reinforced and passionate team of qualified instructors is to guarantee tailor-made support so that each member progresses at their own pace, combining the pleasure of cycling, group cohesion, and competitive spirit,” continues the club president.

Between trips and charity events

“The month of September was already very busy for road cyclists, with two trips: the first to Sainte-Tulle, near Manosque to discover the Lubéron, and the second on the shores of Lake Sainte-Croix. The club also mobilized for solidarity causes. On September 22nd, its members accompanied a group of cyclists from Le Lavandou to Sanary-sur-Mer as part of an action against cancer. This mobilization continued on October 4th with a morning of cycling open to all, organized for the Octobre Rose campaign,” says Hubert Larose.

Four routes of 20 km, 55 km, 87 km, and 116 km were offered to allow everyone, regardless of their level, to participate.

For its part, the hiking group resumed its weekly outings on Monday, September 14th. Furthermore, UCPL members proudly represented the club at renowned events such as the Étape du Tour, VTT Marathon, Azur Cup, and the Coupe de France Enduro. The season concludes with two major challenges: the Championnat de France VTT Marathon and the famous Roc d’Azur.

Review and future projects

“Finally, a highlight of the club’s life, the annual Assemblée Générale will be held on Saturday, October 31st at the Yan-Piat hall. It will be an opportunity to review the past year and present future projects, before concluding with the traditional paella, a convivial gathering eagerly awaited by all members,” concludes President Larose.
