The mobile gendarmerie and the ACSPMG create a memorial space
The Groupement II/6 of mobile gendarmerie and ACSPMG signed an agreement to create a heritage space at the Capitaine Delort barracks.
The Groupement II/6 de gendarmerie mobile and the Association des Collectionneurs pour la Sauvegarde du Patrimoine de la Maréchaussée à la Gendarmerie (ACSPMG) have officialised a major partnership through the signing of a loan agreement.
This initiative lays the foundations for a heritage space within the Capitaine Delort barracks, aimed at preserving and transmitting the history of the institution.
TRIBUTE TO CAPITAINE DELORT
The signing, the result of several months of collaboration, brought together Colonel Olivier Castiès, commander of the Groupement II/6, Nicolas Moulin, president of the ACSPMG and curator of the collections, and Capitaine Castello, co-initiator of the project.
The objective is to offer soldiers, their families, and visitors a place dedicated to the memory and transmission of the values of the Gendarmerie.
This space is designed to pay tribute to Capitaine Delort, the officer whose name is borne by the group and the barracks. His personal belongings are on display there, recalling that behind every barracks name lies a human story, a destiny, and an example that still inspires gendarmes.
Beyond this emblematic figure, the project traces more broadly the history of the Gendarmerie. Thanks to the expertise and richness of the ACSPMG collections, numerous historical objects have been gathered: headgear, medals, archival documents, photographs, and other iconic pieces illustrate the evolution of the institution over the centuries.
A presentation booklet accompanies visitors on this historical and educational journey, highlighting the origins of the Golf Hôtel barracks.
The collections, loaned by the ACSPMG, provide an immersive journey, recalling the fundamental values that drive soldiers: a sense of duty, courage, loyalty, and service to the Nation. This space will be accessible to the group's personnel, their families, as well as authorities and the public during official ceremonies, strengthening the bond between the institution and the community.
TRANSMISSION
This agreement illustrates the complementarity between an operational unit of the gendarmerie and an association dedicated to preserving heritage. This partnership fulfils the vocation of our association, which is to bring collections to life by putting them at the service of historical transmission.
For his part, by supporting this initiative, Colonel Olivier Castiès reaffirms the importance of the duty of memory within the units. He stressed the need to pass on the legacy of their elders to younger generations, considering that knowing one's history is an essential condition for preparing the future.
More than a museum, this space is a link between past, present, and future generations of gendarmes.
