The Maison du Combattant, a lively and intergenerational space
During Heritage Days, the Maison du Combattant in Toulon unveiled its collections and intergenerational mission.

The Heritage Days in Var attracted a large crowd, curious to discover atypical sites like the Maison du Combattant in Toulon.
Museums, monuments, military sites and private properties usually closed to the public welcomed crowds of visitors, proving a continuing strong interest in local heritage. The success of this edition relied on a varied programme that highlighted sometimes lesser-known places.
The diversity of offerings, ranging from historical buildings to military structures, appealed to a curious and family audience. Faced with the abundance of open sites, many visitors had to plan their itinerary, aware that it was impossible to see everything in a single weekend.
The Maison du Combattant in the spotlight
Among the emblematic places of this edition, the Maison du Combattant in Toulon stood out in particular by offering an immersion into its museum space. Visitors were able to discover collections of objects, documents, and historical artifacts that trace combatant memory from an original and human perspective.

The institution does not merely preserve relics of the past. It aims to be a crossroads of transmission.
The Maison du Combattant, which brings together 45 associations, aims to be a living space, with intergenerational actions designed to promote the transmission of memory and exchanges around history.
This desire to bring heritage to life materialized this year with the inauguration of a display case dedicated to the history of the gendarmerie. Created in partnership with the Histoire et Patrimoine de la Gendarmerie association (ACSPMG), this exhibition enriches the existing museum space.
This is the second step, linked by the agreement with the Maison du Combattant. This presentation enriches the existing museum space and highlights another facet of our institutional heritage. Through the objects and pieces presented, visitors can discover different aspects of the history of the gendarmerie and those who embodied it, such as the belongings of Brigadier General Guérin loaned by his wife Simone Guérin.
This initiative perfectly illustrates the dynamic of the venue: preserve, present, and above all transmit. By turning its collections into a medium for dialogue between generations, the Maison du Combattant continues its outreach to an ever-wider public.
The event served as a reminder that history is discovered not only in museums, but also in military works, private collections, and places of memory, thanks to the commitment of those who work toward their preservation.
