A successful challenge for the first edition of the forum des Métiers de l’Engagement, which took place on September 11 and 12 at the L’Avenue 83 shopping center in La Valette-du-Var.

For two days, this unprecedented event transformed the shopping street into a meeting space dedicated to employment in the defense, security, rescue, and citizenship sectors.

All institutional actors attended, offering visitors a comprehensive overview of career opportunities. The public was able to speak with representatives from the various branches of the Centre d’Information et de Recrutement des Forces Armées (CIRFA), the Var firefighters, the Police nationale and municipale, as well as the groupement de gendarmerie départementale.

Young enlisted military personnel and Cadets de la Gendarmerie were also present to share their experience.

A hub for direct dialogue

The major asset of this event lay in the opportunity for a diverse public to speak with working professionals. Far from traditional recruitment forums, the approach aimed to be pragmatic and human.

The exchanges were numerous and detailed, covering exam admission requirements, training pathways, career progression prospects, and various possible forms of commitment, such as becoming a reservist.

For one of the organizers, the event hit its mark by building a bridge between institutions and citizens.

“The goal was to show that commitment is not limited to a single profession or institution. There are a multitude of paths and ways to serve. This first edition created that connection with the public, and it is a true satisfaction,” assures Warrant Officer Nicolas Moulin, deputy head of the Service Réserve Jeunesse.

The search for meaning, a driving force for commitment

Beyond the technical aspects of recruitment, the event highlighted a fundamental dimension of these careers: the search for meaning. Discussions often centered around the notion of mission and community service, values sought by the new generations.

The presence of the Cadets de la Gendarmerie illustrated the importance of passing on this civic spirit.

For many visitors, these two days provided an opportunity for a decisive first contact, while for others, they helped confirm a career plan that was already well established.

The outcome of this first edition is considered positive by the organizers, both in terms of partner mobilization and obvious public interest. This collective success lays the groundwork for an event that could become a regular feature on the calendar of employment and recruitment events in Var.

Building on this success, the project's initiators aim to repeat the experience next year with an even more ambitious edition, intending to strengthen existing partnerships and attract an even broader audience. A promising start that has perhaps already inspired future callings.
