At the end of 2024, the vessel played a key role in the AGENOR mission before participating in the opening of the theater in the Red Sea as part of the Houthi crisis, distinguishing itself by firing Aster 15 missiles. The same year, the frigate conducted a situation assessment mission in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In 2025, the Languedoc was deployed as part of the European operation Apsides, during which it neutralized a Houthi aerial drone with its 76 mm cannon.
The year 2026 began with an operational readiness training course, immediately followed by an alert departure in the context of the Middle East crisis. This mission notably helped reassure Chypre and conduct a new situation assessment in the Indian Ocean, confirming the intense activity of the ship.
The career of a combat systems expert
Born in 1980 in La Rochelle, Captain Alain Gaborit entered the École navale in 2001. A specialist in "Missiles-artillery", his career is marked by recognized expertise in combat systems and rich operational experience.
He has participated in many major operations, including LICORNE in Côte d’Ivoire (2004), BALISTE in Liban (2006), and AGAPANTHE in the Indian Ocean.
His career led him to serve on vessels of all types, from landing platform docks to anti-submarine and anti-aircraft frigates. He served as commander of the public service patrol vessel Pluvier and, more recently, of the surveillance frigate Vendémiaire between July 2021 and July 2022.
A perfect knowledge of the FREMM
Having served as executive officer of the FREMM Languedoc (Crew B) and participated in several deployments in the Indian Ocean, he knows this type of vessel perfectly.
Before taking his new command, he served from 2024 to 2026 as head of operations (J3) at the Mediterranean operations center.
Promoted to Captain on May 1, 2025, Alain Gaborit is a knight of the Ordre national du mérite and of the Légion d’honneur. He takes the head of Crew A of the FREMM Languedoc to continue France's defense and presence missions on the seas.
