Jean-Louis Masson, president of the Département, and Guillaume Decard, president of Var Tourisme, presented figures that, despite a complex national context, show the destination's resilience.

With 60 million overnight stays recorded from January to August, overall visitor numbers remain stable compared to 2025.

To understand the Var's performance, it must be placed in a national framework where vacationer behavior was modified by economic constraints. According to the ADN Tourisme study, 85% of French people declared they were concerned about their purchasing power.

This concern translated into shorter stays (60% of a week or less) and a search for proximity. As a direct consequence, 62% of French vacationers felt they cut back, making trade-offs on budgets for dining out and paid leisure. While the sea remains the preferred destination for 55% of them, it lost ground to the countryside or the mountains.

Summer visitor numbers saved by foreign clientele

Despite this climate, Var recorded 31.3 million overnight stays in July and August. This stability hides a slight decrease in French clientele, offset by the confirmed presence of international tourists.

The latter represented 32% of summer overnight stays, consolidating the excellent figures of 2025. In detail, German clientele came out on top (21% of foreign overnight stays), followed by the Netherlands (9%), Belgium (8%), Switzerland and the United Kingdom (7% each).

On the French side, Île-de-France remains the primary source region (30%), ahead of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (17%) and visitors from the Région Sud (13%).

A positive assessment for accommodation professionals

The various accommodation sectors show generally positive results, as highlighted by the professional representatives present, including Jean-Pierre Ghiribelli for the UMIH and Anne Caillat for outdoor accommodation.

Traditional hotels experienced a positive summer, with a 7% increase in overnight stays in July and an occupancy rate up by 2 points. Furnished rentals maintained stable activity.

Tourist residences, represented by Isabelle Lyobard, saw their occupancy rate rise by 1.9 points. Outdoor accommodation saw its attendance confirmed, with 68% of sector professionals considering the 2026 season as "good".
