Since July 1st, the trackless train of the Giens peninsula has resumed its runs to the great delight of residents and holidaymakers.

Supported by the city of Hyères and the Métropole TPM, this free shuttle initiative is part of the Grand Site de France project to preserve and enhance this coastal gem. By offering a fun alternative to the car, the local authorities are strengthening the mobility plan of a natural site that is particularly busy in summer.

A highly popular alternative

The goal is to ease traffic flow and reduce automotive pressure, especially along the famous route du sel which borders the Salin des Pesquiers. The trackless train thus transforms the large Almanarre – Biancotto parking lot and its 900 spaces into a park-and-ride lot.

Visitors are invited to leave their vehicles there to reach the village of Giens or the beaches of the West tombolo in complete peace of mind, avoiding the difficult search for a parking space by the sea. This approach limits parking along the route du sel to clear the view of the salt marshes.

Schedules and new features

Until August 31, two trackless trains provide continuous service, seven days a week. Departures run every half hour from the park-and-ride lot, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm and then from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

To respond to the high attendance on Tuesdays, the day of the provençal market in Giens, a new feature has been introduced this season: two additional runs have been added at 9:00 am and 12:30 pm. This extended schedule allows visitors to enjoy the market without transport constraints.
