Immersion internship with the Gendarmerie for high school students
The Gendarmerie du Var successfully organized an immersion internship for year 11 students, offering them a concrete vision of its careers.
The groupement de la gendarmerie du Var recently successfully completed the second 2026 session of its immersion internship for year 11 students. Led by the Réserve Jeunesse service, in partnership with the lycée du Coudon, the initiative offers young people a concrete vision of the careers and values of the institution.
Immersion
During two intense weeks, high school students from various establishments in the region explored the many facets of the gendarmerie. The program allowed them to discover the organization of the services, units and the many specialties of the branch.
Discussions with the military, demonstrations of know-how and practical scenarios punctuated this internship, offering a perspective on the daily commitment of the gendarmes. An information point on communication, recruitment and the operational reserve completed this overview.
The end of the internship was marked by a certificate presentation ceremony, presided over by Colonel Goumain, commanding the groupement de la Gendarmerie du Var. In the presence of their families, supervisors and partners, the interns saw their involvement rewarded.
Le Souvenir Français, which took part during the program, also presented diplomas to the participants, highlighting the importance of the values of citizenship, transmission and the duty of memory.
Experience
Among the participants, Noah Maheut, 16 years old, a student at the lycée militaire d'Aix-en-Provence, explains that he chose this internship to explore professional alternatives to his initial project in the Armée de l'Air: "I wanted to see the careers of the gendarmerie in order to have exit route ideas in case I do not succeed in my main curriculum in the CPA 10 (Armée de l'Air)".
On a personal level, this immersion opened up prospects for him, particularly in cutting-edge fields.
"I discovered the cybergendarmes, which I think is a career of the future, due to the rise of AI. This internship allowed me to deepen my knowledge of certain professions like the PJ (police judiciaire) where we could see the stages of solving this type of investigation," confides the young man.
Asked about the moment that marked him the most, Noah mentioned a memory filled with camaraderie and civic utility: "My favorite moment was the review of first aid, I had a good laugh with my comrades and reviewed basics that seem essential to a future citizen."
Beyond the simple professional discovery, this session turned out to be a human adventure. The interactions between the students, active military, reservists and representatives of the community sector fostered an intergenerational dialogue rich in sharing experiences.
The organizers thanked their partners whose support was crucial to the success of the event: Le Souvenir Français du Var, ACSPMG (Histoire et Patrimoine de la Gendarmerie), OUKON?Var, pharmacie Requin, IMMO 2M, AGPM and Décathlon.
The success of this edition suggests that, for some of these young people, this immersion may have sown the seeds of a future commitment to the service of the Nation.
