The Marine nationale has partnered with the Costebelle high school to train tomorrow's experts. The Centre Marine de combat cyber (CMC2) and students from the BTS CIEL (cybersecurity, IT and networks, electronics) at the Hyères high school have thus joined forces via a Defense Class.

This strategic partnership for the future of French cyberdefense was sealed by the signing of an agreement on September 24, at the Toulon naval base. It represents an unprecedented collaboration between the military world and education.

The Defense Classes system

Defense Classes aim to put the teaching of security and sovereignty issues into practice within schools. By establishing a lasting partnership with a military unit, this program allows students to regularly meet professionals from the armed forces.

The initiative aims to convey republican values, raise youth awareness about contemporary defense challenges, and consolidate the essential bond between the armed forces and the Nation.

The project stakeholders

The signing of the agreement took place in the presence of the main stakeholders of the project. Present were: Lieutenant Commander Augustin, head of the Toulon branch of the CMC2, Mr. le Drezen, headmaster of the Costebelle high school, Ms. Elalamy, deputy director of training, and Colonel Nicolas Rynine, in his capacity as departmental military delegate of Var (DMD).

This partnership includes the Var-Méditerranée regional association of the Institut de hautes études de défense nationale.

The CMC2, a key player in naval cyberdefense

The Centre Marine de combat cyber, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last winter, is the Navy's benchmark operator in the digital field. Integrated into the Communauté Cyber des Armées (CCA), it fulfills three fundamental missions.

First, it ensures the permanent supervision of naval information systems via its Security Operations Center (SOC).

Second, it is responsible for the training and battle-hardening of naval units to enable them to operate effectively under a cyber threat.

Finally, its Cyber Intervention Groups (GIC) are capable of intervening quickly on units affected by IT incidents.
