The solidarity of firefighters knows no departmental borders. After lending a hand to their colleagues in Bouches-du-Rhône, Pyrénées-Orientales, and Drôme, a team of eight firefighters from the intercommunal rescue center of Bormes-les-Mimosas – Le Lavandou, led by Captain Samir Bchini, mobilized as reinforcement in Seine-et-Marne to lend a hand in protecting the forest of Fontainebleau.

This wave of solidarity was praised by François Arizzi, the mayor, and his municipal team, who saw in this mission an example of the values of rescue and fraternity upheld by the local firefighters.

An echo of past solidarity

For the elected official, this gesture of mutual aid echoes a painful but significant memory for the municipality: the great fire that ravaged the region during the summer of 2017.

The mayor recalled the importance of the national solidarity received on that occasion:

"My thoughts go back to the summer of 2017, when we remember that terrible fire that struck Bormes-les-Mimosas. In those moments of extreme distress, we were able to measure the full importance of mutual aid by welcoming the invaluable support of forces from all regions of France. Something we do not forget."

A double challenge in the middle of the summer season

The Municipality highlighted the difficulty of this external mission in the heart of the summer season, a period when the local population multiplies and the risk of fire is at its peak on the Var coast.

"Let us praise the exceptional commitment of the men and women of our intercommunal rescue center on an external mission to protect the forest of Fontainebleau. Going on a mission while ensuring the safety of our local area, whose population multiplies during this summer period, represents an exceptional commitment,"

he insisted.
