School cross-country run: youth united in a great sporting celebration
For nearly 20 years, the school cross-country run has brought together hundreds of students, from kindergarten to middle school.

Every year, at the end of the school year, a great excitement takes over the town. Far from being a simple sports competition, the school cross-country run is a local institution.
This event, eagerly awaited by all families, celebrates self-improvement and the cohesion of the educational community.
Massive participation
Its success lies in its unifying and inclusive nature, bringing together almost all the school-aged youth of the municipality. From the youngest to pre-teens, everyone puts on their sneakers.
On the starting lines, we find the students of the two nursery schools (Moulin Vieux and Oswald) where the middle and upper sections are introduced to the joys of collective running.
They are followed by the schoolchildren of the two primary establishments (Jean Jaurès and Antoine Bussone) who see their classes, from CP to CM2, line up on courses of progressive distances.
Finally, the 6th-grade students of the François de Leusse middle school integrate this race into their Physical Education and Sport (EPS) program.
For the little ones, it is a playful awakening to physical effort, on short loops where the important thing is to cross the finish line to the applause of parents and teachers. For the older ones, a competitive spirit takes hold, with everyone seeking to give their best to beat their record or, why not, stand on the podium.
A rigorous organization
Such a gathering, mobilizing hundreds of children, cannot be improvised. Its safety relies on the commitment of the Service des Sports of the town hall. The agents deploy precise logistics, ensuring the mapping and securing of the courses, the management of starts for each age category, as well as the animation of the event.
This organization, the result of a synergy between the town services, school administrations, teaching teams, and parent-teacher associations, guarantees the success of this great celebration.
Solidarity and self-improvement
While the cross-country run is an athletic challenge, its pedagogical value is fundamental. Ahead of the event, teachers prepare students during classes, working on endurance, effort management, and perseverance.
On the day of the race, these values take on their full meaning. The competitive spirit gives way to immense solidarity, as shown by those moving scenes where the fastest runners retrace their steps to encourage and accompany their struggling classmates to the finish line.
At the end of the event, every effort is commended. Whether they finished on the podium or completed their course, the children leave with a medal, a symbol of their participation and courage.
