Illegal dumping, education and firmness

Faced with the persistence of illegal dumping, the Municipality has decided to take action against the anti-social behavior that degrades the living environment of its residents. Since September 7, a communication campaign has been deployed to recall a rule of common sense: the cleanliness of streets, parks, and squares is a collective responsibility.

This initiative aims to educate citizens on the consequences of their actions and to inform them of the penalties they face, in a renewed effort to preserve the quality of the public space.

Persistent behaviors

The local authority highlights the considerable efforts already made to maintain cleanliness in its territory. More than 300 public bins are distributed throughout the neighborhoods, as well as 40 distribution points for dog waste bags and 72 collection points for cigarette butts. A bulky waste collection service, free of charge and by appointment, completes this system.

Despite this arsenal, the reality remains bitter. Every day, municipal services face recurring acts of uncivil behavior: cigarette butts thrown on the sidewalks, uncollected dog waste, illegal dumping of garbage bags or various objects on street corners.

These behaviors represent a cost for the community and a nuisance for residents. It is this gap between the resources deployed and the respect for the common space that the new campaign intends to correct.

Education and firmness

The campaign is structured around six themes, each illustrating a form of uncivil behavior and recalling the best practices to adopt. The approach is preventive, relying on civic awareness. The message of the mayor, Hélène Arnaud-Bill, summarizes the philosophy of this action.

"What we do not do at home, we must not do in public space!"

Because awareness is accompanied by a repressive component. The campaign highlights the penalties provided by law. Depending on the nature of the offense, offenders face fines ranging from €450 to €1,500, an amount intended to make an impact.

For the municipal team, it is about establishing a logical progression, as Florian Jonet, deputy mayor, explains.

"Initially, we emphasize awareness and education. But afterwards, the police municipale will be able to issue fines"

This two-step strategy gives residents time to adopt the message, while warning that impunity will no longer be tolerated. The City recalls that preserving an enjoyable living environment relies on simple actions and on everyone's involvement.
