Experts advocate for a preventive approach
Meeting in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, health professionals defined the priorities for a preventive overhaul of the system.
A workshop of the "États généraux de la santé et de la protection sociale" was held on June 2 at the Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer EHPAD, bringing together professionals from the sector in collaboration with the CPTS Var Ouest.
“The presence of health professionals from different sectors of activity (EHPAD director, doctor, department head, health executive, nurse, physiotherapist, social worker, psychologist, head of an association such as Sanary Sport Santé, health users, and active or retired mutualists) made it possible to debate objectively on the proposals to be put forward to move the health system in the right direction,” welcomes Dominique Viot, president of the Var delegation of the Mutualité Française.
The departmental head continues: “The debates focused on two areas deemed strategic for the future of the French healthcare system: prevention and innovation. The result is a unanimous call for a paradigm shift, from a mainly curative model to a resolutely preventive approach.”
Prevention, the pillar of a healthcare system to be reinvented
“Overburdened general practitioners lack time dedicated to the preventive follow-up of their patients. For experts, this situation requires a profound transformation of the healthcare system,” explains Dominique Viot.
Several concrete proposals were formulated to reverse this trend. First, it is considered essential to permanently include prevention in the initial and continuous training cycle of all healthcare professionals.
Secondly, the implementation of a strong local steering, including all stakeholders, was recommended to ensure better coordination of actions on the ground.
Finally, particular emphasis was placed on the need to facilitate the practice of physical activity by making it more accessible, particularly to combat overweight, which affects increasingly younger audiences.
Innovation in service of access to care for all
The second part of the discussions focused on innovation, particularly digital. While new technologies offer considerable opportunities, their deployment raises major challenges.
“Access problems, ignorance of the systems, and the digital divide were pointed out as factors aggravating the renunciation of care for a part of the population,” continues the president of the Var delegation.
He continues: “The security of personal data also remains a major concern that requires reinforced guarantees. In response to these challenges, the participants proposed several avenues. The simplification and standardization of digital interfaces are considered a priority to make them accessible to as many people as possible.”
“A synthesis of all the workshops organized in France will be conducted this summer by the Mutualité Française. Its experts will present their conclusions in the fall, a period during which they will be presented to the general public and submitted to all presidential candidates to learn about their actions if elected,” concludes Dominique Viot.
