Successful try for the 1st edition of the Tournoi Basile Moraitis

From May 14 to 16, La Valette-du-Var, already famous for its rugby club with the XV du Coudon, vibrated to the rhythm of the oval ball.

The city hosted an event of international scale that brought together several hundred young players from all over France, but also from Italy, Switzerland, and even Ireland!

An organization at the service of human experience

The three stadiums (Félix-Rougier, Jacques-Roux and Vallis Laeta) each welcomed these little players, their coaches, and their families with very special attention.

For beyond the matches themselves, it was a human experience designed and offered by the XV du Coudon, with the logistical support of the Ville and the backing of numerous volunteers present throughout the event to handle the reception of delegations, catering, organization, and transport from one stadium to another.

Rugby's values in the spotlight

Indeed, the goal was to highlight the educational values carried by rugby. Considered as a way to learn basic ways of being, true foundations acquired for life (in society), this sport is praised for its fair play, rigour, humility, and the commitment it generates in players.

These character traits were emphasized throughout the tournament, with a focus on eco-responsibility (with a 15-question quiz converted into a bonus point) and inclusion, through an introduction to wheelchair rugby with Guillaume Mélenchon, president of Rugby Fauteuil Club TPM, a former U20 international, trained by Basile Moraitis.

Tribute to Basile Moraitis

Basile Moraitis had been chosen as the patron of this first edition, like a bridge stretched between yesterday and today. The French international, an iconic figure of the local club, is considered one of the architects of the development of the rugby school in the 1970s.

After a ceremony at the cemetery the day before the tournament, the tribute was extended to the trophies, named after former volunteers, leaders, and enthusiasts who had also left their mark on local rugby, following in the footsteps of Basile Moraitis.
