Faced with the devastating fires that have struck several municipalities of Var, the Association des Maires Ruraux du Var (AMR83) wishes to mobilize local authorities, institutional partners, businesses, and all those wishing to offer their support.
Most of the municipalities affected today are rural. In this exceptional context, it is essential that solidarity also be organized closest to these territories, their elected officials, and their residents.
The establishment of this support fund must not be viewed as an additional or redundant appeal for donations. It is neither a matter of competing with ongoing initiatives, nor of multiplying fundraisers. It aims to provide a complementary, targeted, and coordinated response for the stricken rural municipalities.
In the immediate term, the numerous donations of foodstuffs, equipment, and various forms of assistance address the most urgent needs of the populations, emergency services, and local authorities. These outpourings of solidarity are precious. However, they must be organized in direct liaison with local elected officials. This ensures they meet real needs and prevents issues with storage, preservation, or waste.
Next will come the post-crisis phase. Beyond the initial emergency measures, damage assessments, and insurance interventions, certain municipalities will still face significant needs. They must ensure operational continuity, restore their equipment, support their residents, and rebuild what has been damaged or destroyed.
The AMR83 will then undertake, directly with the mayors concerned, a precise assessment of their short, medium, and long-term needs.
Collected funds will be allocated to the affected rural municipalities through transparent, traceable, and collaborative procedures, based on the needs expressed by elected officials and the damage recorded.
"In this ordeal, we must remain united, coordinated, and solidary. The rural community of Var has always demonstrated mutual aid. Today more than ever, it must be able to rely on the mobilization of all."
