Forest fires in Var: heightened vigilance for civil security
The Feux de forêt 2026 campaign was launched in La Crau by the authorities of Var to anticipate fire risks.
The préfet du Var, the president of the Département and the director of the service départemental d’incendie et de secours (SDIS 83) launched the Feux de forêt 2026 campaign at the Domaine de la Navarre in La Crau.
The authorities of Var are mobilized to anticipate the risk of fires. This event marked the launch of a period of heightened vigilance for all civil security actors and the general public.
Partnership
In the preamble, a step formalized cooperation between the services de l’État and the Département. Two agreements were signed, reinforcing the surveillance and firefighting system.
The first concerns the manning and activation of lookouts as well as surveillance patrols in the forest massifs. The second concerns the acquisition of new matériel de défense des forêts contre les incendies (DFCI), essential for rapid and effective intervention by teams on the ground.
The presentation of operational measures was punctuated by concrete demonstrations. Dynamic maneuvers illustrated the intervention chain of the sapeurs-pompiers and their partners when faced with a fire starting in a natural area, notably with the deployment of a Groupe d’Intervention and a simulated drop by a water bomber helicopter.
These exercises demonstrated the coordination and responsiveness of the emergency services.
Responsibility
This event recalled the importance of respecting the bans in force concerning the use of fire and the conditions of access to the forest massifs.
To best inform residents and tourists, an interactive fire risk map will once again be updated daily.
This indispensable tool can be consulted until mid-September on the website of the préfecture du Var (www.var.gouv.fr) as well as on the social networks of the préfecture and the SDIS 83.
