La Valette, a smart city!
On August 1st, Thierry Albertini, the mayor, signed a contract for the deployment of 67 new video protection cameras across the entire municipality.
This project marks a decisive step for the City in improving its telecommunications infrastructure and transitioning to a smart city.
Ultimately, these 98 cameras, connected via dark fiber to the Centre de Supervision Urbain (CSU) in the new Hôtel de Police municipale, will help maintain a safe climate. Thus, the Police nationale, present at the signing, highlighted a drop of more than 30% in crimes since the installation of the first 31 cameras.
SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS Detailing the advantages of the future network, Thierry Albertini specified: "The City has initiated an ambitious project for the deployment of a dark fiber optic network. It aims to create a Groupe Fermé d'Utilisateurs (GFU). This network, essential for improving telecommunications infrastructure, will mainly interconnect municipal buildings and video protection cameras.
Furthermore, this very high-speed optical network will improve the control of data flows. It will contribute to cost reduction through significant savings achieved by terminating existing Internet and VPN subscriptions. It will bring real reliability to the video protection system by reducing dependence on radio links.
In addition, it will allow the addition of new cameras across the entire municipal territory. Finally, the project prepares for the transition to IP telephony with the shutdown of the copper network (RTC)."
In the medium term, it will favor the implementation of innovative services for a "Smart City" such as e-services, e-administration and the centralized management of public infrastructures. The network will consist of 54.4 kilometers of dark fiber optics, with an infrastructure comprising a main loop and three arteries serving 34 municipal sites.
