Holidays by the sea are also at the museum!

Thanks to specific mediation, painting and printmaking workshops, and the small bookshop, the new exhibition dedicated to 20th-century avant-gardes holds no secrets for the youngest visitors. While the presqu'île de Giens, in the heart of the Parc national de Port-Cros, still attracts as many families wishing to enjoy the sun, nature, islands, and the omnipresent sea in this exceptional territory, the novelty is that it also offers an artistic stopover at the port du Niel! Since its creation in 2023, the Musée has sought to open up to younger generations.

Adhering to the Éducation Artistique et Culturel programme of Hyères, and regularly welcoming school groups, the museum's mediation team worked from the opening of the 2024 exhibition on new discovery and creation activities for families.

The weekly workshop 'Je peins au musée' proposes to guide children through the current exhibition and then create in the museum garden with Valeria Faveurux. This year, the artists Louis Cane, Patrick Saytour, and Claude Viallat are the thread of the workshop, allowing children to work on the theme of prints and colour using recycled materials. Specific mediation for children is also offered to help parents engage the youngest ones.

Adapted explanations of the context in which the works were created, a focus on the creation of certain works, and also learning to observe and express their emotions are the axes of a pathway constructed for each exhibition: "What catches the parents' eye is not necessarily what puzzles the youngest.

Besides, children are spontaneously much more receptive to the abstract painting we exhibit at the museum. They are also very comfortable using the visitor sheet we designed this year, which encourages active viewing of the exhibition and identifying works in space in particular. It is up to them to help their parents, and above all, this creates true moments of sharing," explains the museum management.

At the reception, visitors can discover a selection of books to introduce art to all ages: Couleurs by Hervé Tullet, L'art abstrait by Sarah Barthère and Pierre Van Hove, a maxi colouring book, among others, make lovely gifts to share. And why not discover them while enjoying an artisanal ice cream on the museum terrace at the Mérou du Niel or in the garden overlooking the lovely port du Niel?

In short, art and the sea are the promise of a summer rich in colour and emotion!
