Anthony Martin (laboratory technician for NGE)

To carry out his mission successfully, Anthony has a small laboratory where he performs all the necessary analyses. "My role as a laboratory technician consists of quality monitoring of the asphalt mix, before and after it is laid. The asphalt mixes are produced from a plant located in Revest-les-Eaux. They are manufactured as the construction site needs them, and I must therefore ensure their good quality."

DAILY MONITORING

He continues: "This monitoring operation is conducted every day, and I am involved from the manufacturing of the asphalt mix to its application on site. If by any chance the quality is not up to standard, which can sometimes happen, we plane down the asphalt and lay a new one. This has happened, but it remains rare," says the technician who discovered this work during temporary missions on behalf of NGE. His role is therefore essential as it ensures the product's durability is not compromised. This job, which takes him across France, suits him perfectly: "This work as a laboratory technician is interesting because it includes office work and fieldwork and, overall, since we manage the problem from start to finish, it is a very complete profession with an important role for the client." The technician adds: "In my work, with my two colleagues, I must anticipate problems and decide on the action to take, meaning whether or not to plane down the asphalt that has been laid. To do this, we must consider the cost of this operation and the schedule, because there is no question of delaying the construction site. Companies know that I am not there to hassle them and 'prevent them from pouring concrete in circles'!" Finally, when the widening of the A57 is complete, Anthony will return to the field one last time before the final layer is laid to ensure the quality of the operation.
