Elected officials pay a strong tribute to the soldiers of the liberation

The 80th anniversary of the Débarquement de Provence, celebrated this year, was an opportunity to pay tribute to the sacrifices and courage of the soldiers, resistance fighters, and civilians who participated in the liberation of the South of France during the Second World War. This is why La Garde paid a strong tribute to all those who contributed to the breakthrough of the Forces Françaises Libres in 1944, from Cavalaire to Toulon. In La Garde, it took two days of fierce fighting on August 22 and 23, 1944, to liberate the town. 92 soldiers of General Brosset's 1ère DFL lost their lives there. Thus, many local and departmental elected officials, including Hélène Bill, the mayor, Stéphane Rambaud, deputy for the 3ème circonscription du Var, and Jean-Louis Masson, president of the Département, remembered these heroes. With great emotion, they walked the paths followed by these brave soldiers, laying wreaths at the foot of the stelae, symbolizing the places where all these young people died. The elected officials also bowed before all these sacrifices made by these soldiers to drive out the Nazi occupier, paying them a strong tribute. Finally, the Ville organized a parade of vintage vehicles on Thursday, August 22, and on August 23, an exhibition of a tank and military vehicles in the town hall parking lot.
