An indispensable duty of remembrance

On August 19, 1944, after the assault on the Mauvanne battery in Hyères a few hours earlier, the command post of the 9ème Division d'Infanterie Coloniale (DIIC) was established between Solliès-Pont and Solliès-Toucas. From here, the DIC was ready to commit to conquering the Coudon and La Valette-du-Var. Indeed, the roadblock set up on the route départementale 554 by Wehrmacht soldiers was broken by the assaults of the liberation troops, and the German occupier finally retreated to Solliès-Pont. 80 years later, it is essential for the younger generations to respect a duty of remembrance towards those who led this operation, whether they died or survived this episode of the war. This commemoration began with a patriotic ceremony in front of the town hall, featuring a historical parade of vehicles organized by the association "Août 44" and the marching band "l’Écho du Faron", followed by the laying of wreaths and speeches. The morning concluded with an aperitif offered by the Municipality. In the evening, a delicious pistou soup delighted dozens of guests, thanks to the association of merchants and artisans of Solliès-Toucas, while a concert by the Swing Délirium Jazz Band closed the day. Finally, an exhibition by the association "Anvil – Dragoon" can be seen at the Moulin Arnaud, one of the municipality's most iconic locations.
