An evening under the stars to launch the cultural season
The City launched the new cultural season of the théâtre du Rocher.
On September 6 on the esplanade Gérard Philipe, the curtain rose on a unique and inventive new season of the théâtre du Rocher. Classical texts, solo shows, events for young audiences, but also world music, cabaret, and circus. The 2024/2025 program of the théâtre du Rocher was thus unveiled with the screening of a film announcing the scheduled shows and an evening that set the tempo for the season with the Var-based company La Divine Usine. Offering a repertoire of shows ranging from creations for youth to more performative forms, multidisciplinarity is at the heart of their work: visual arts, music, writing, puppetry, theater, staging, clowning, or dance. A theater close to the spectator that draws its energy from collective emotion. The evening ended in music with DJ and singer Lydia Scarfo, accompanied by a saxophonist.
50 YEARS OF CREATION
It all started, five decades ago, with the idea of creating a live performance venue in the heart of the city, a flagship location in the local artistic landscape, thanks to an eclectic and bold program, backed by a cinema (classified Art et Essai since 1977). Moreover, in December, the Rocher will celebrate its 50th anniversary in the presence of those who made up the soul of this place: the troupes of the resident Companies. Thus, for 20 years, the César Gattegno company created a wide repertoire, ran workshops, and introduced theater to the youngest. A dynamic of creation and transmission that continued with the arrival, in 1995, of the company Le Bruit des Hommes, which is committed to helping people discover contemporary theatrical writing and forms. Then in 2009, the Cabinet de Curiosités, created by Guillaume Cantillon, took over and continued the exploration of a theatrical and poetic repertoire, while maintaining the link with the amateur and school public.
