On the way to the 10th Parc Naturel Régional!

Chaired by François de Canson, vice-president of the Région, and Georges Botella, regional councillor, and in the presence of Myriam Garcia, sub-prefect, it allowed for the final adjustments to be made ahead of the official opportunity visit for this creation project. The meeting brought together representatives of the Département, environmental associations, the Syndicat Mixte des Maures, geologists, representatives of the SDIS du Var and consular chambers.

FIELD VISIT

"On July 12, the Région voted unanimously to launch the prefiguration process for this 10th parc naturel régional in the Région Sud. The regional prefect was then officially consulted for an opinion on the opportunity of this project," recalls François de Canson, vice-president of the Région. The regional official added: "In this context, a field visit by rapporteurs from the Conseil National de protection de la nature and the Fédération des parcs naturels régionaux de France took place from November 13 to November 15." And, on December 17, the next step will be a hearing with the Conseil National de Protection de la Nature. On this occasion, the Région, through François de Canson who has championed the initiative since its origin, will be interviewed. Finally, the regional prefect will deliver his opinion on the opportunity to create this new park to the Région Sud by the end of March 2025. "The Région conducted a study on the territory. This study demonstrated the outstanding character of its natural and cultural heritage, its landscapes, and their specific identity, but also their fragility. It also made it possible to define a coherent study perimeter.

DETERMINATION OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES

"This study also demonstrated the determination of all the local authorities and stakeholders involved in the project," insists the mayor of La Londe-les-Maures. To date, 42 out of 53 local authorities have voted to support this project. Finally, a steering committee was set up to monitor the entire process. Alongside the Région, it brings together the regional prefectures and the départements of Var and Alpes- Maritimes, the two Conseils départementaux, the public establishments for inter-municipal cooperation, and finally the syndicates of the massif des Maures and the grand site de l'Estérel. "This meeting ended with a shared desire from all the stakeholders present to write the history of their territory together," concludes François de Canson."
